The wayward swine go loose from a truck heading north along the interstate near Exit 77 (PA 39 Mandala Hill/Hershey) shortly after 7 a.m., on Thursday, August 18, police say.

The rear gate of the hauler came open allowing the pigs the escape, but the driver was able to pull over to a rest area before additional pigs hopped off, according to a release by the police.

"Unfortunately due to injuries and safety concerns, the pigs had to be euthanized," police say.

No crashes or human injuries were reported.

The traffic cleared at 9:40 a.m., according to 511pa.
